For SBA lenders
Short answer
The ongoing annual service fee is calculated as a percentage of the outstanding guaranteed portion of the loan and is paid quarterly by the lender to the SBA.
The annual service fee, also known as the 'on-going guaranty fee' or 'SBA servicing fee,' is a recurring fee charged by the SBA to the lender. For FY2026, it is 0.55% (55 basis points) of the outstanding guaranteed balance. Lenders are permitted to pass this fee on to the borrower, typically collected monthly and remitted quarterly to the SBA.
A lender has a 7(a) loan with an original guaranteed portion of $800,000. If the outstanding guaranteed balance at the end of a quarter is $750,000, the annual fee for that period would be calculated as ($750,000 * 0.0055) / 4 = $1,031.25 for that quarter.
