SBA sets upfront guaranty fees annually. For FY2026, loans exceeding $1,000,000 have a tiered fee structure. The first million dollars of the guaranteed amount incurs a 3.50% fee, and any guaranteed amount above $1,000,000 is assessed at 3.75%. This fee is paid by the lender and typically passed on to the borrower.
A lender processes a $2,000,000 7(a) loan with a 75% guaranty. The guaranteed portion is $1,500,000. The fee would be (3.50% of $1,000,000) + (3.75% of $500,000) = $35,000 + $18,750 = $53,750.
