In short
An ITIN is a tax processing number issued by the IRS for individuals who don't have an SSN but need to file U.S. tax returns. It serves a similar purpose for personal identification in loan applications.
If you're a non-U.S. citizen or resident alien without an SSN, your ITIN will be used by the lender to identify you and pull your credit history. The SBA requires all owners of 20% or more, regardless of citizenship, to provide a taxpayer ID. Ensure your ITIN is current and associated with any U.S. tax filings.
