Glossary · The loan itself
In short
A benchmark interest rate based on U.S. Treasury securities. SBA loan interest rates can be tied to a Treasury Index plus a lender's spread.
For variable rate 7(a) loans, the interest rate often floats with a base rate like WSJ Prime or SOFR. However, for fixed-rate options, a Treasury Index might be used. Understand which index your loan is tied to, as it dictates how your interest rate is calculated and can impact your monthly payments.
