SBA loan basics
Short answer
Yes, beyond the interest, borrowers typically pay an annual servicing fee to the SBA, which is collected by the lender and remitted to the SBA.
In addition to the upfront guaranty fee, the SBA charges an annual service fee (also known as the 'on-going guaranty fee' or 'annual service fee') for the guaranteed portion of the loan. This fee is calculated based on the outstanding principal balance and is collected by the lender, then remitted to the SBA quarterly.
For a $500,000 loan with an SBA guarantee of 75%, the annual service fee would be calculated on the $375,000 guaranteed portion. If the fee is 0.55%, the annual fee would be $2,062.50, paid as part of the monthly loan payments.
