Short answer
A personal guaranty means you are personally liable for the repayment of the SBA 7(a) loan if the business defaults, potentially putting your personal assets at risk.
When you personally guarantee an SBA loan, you commit your personal assets (e.g., home, savings, investments) as recourse for the loan if the business cannot repay it. This is a standard requirement for most small business loans, especially those guaranteed by the SBA.
If a business defaults on a $500,000 SBA loan, and after liquidating business assets, $200,000 remains outstanding, the personal guarantor would be responsible for repaying that $200,000 from their personal assets.
