SBA loan basics
Short answer
No, SBA 7(a) loans are available to a broad range of small businesses across many industries. However, some specific business types are ineligible.
The SBA defines eligible small businesses by size standards, which vary by industry. Most for-profit businesses are eligible, but certain types, such as those involved in speculation, lending, or illegal activities, are explicitly excluded.
A manufacturing company or a retail store could be eligible. However, a payday loan business or a non-profit charity would generally not be eligible for a 7(a) loan.
