SBA loan basics
Short answer
Yes, in addition to the upfront guaranty fee, borrowers also pay an ongoing servicing fee, sometimes called an annual service fee, to the SBA. This fee is typically paid monthly or quarterly as part of your loan payment.
The SBA charges an annual service fee on the outstanding principal balance of the guaranteed portion of the loan. This fee is also set annually by the SBA and is collected by the lender, who then remits it to the SBA. For example, for FY 2026, the ongoing servicing fee is typically 0.34% of the outstanding guaranteed balance.
If you have an outstanding guaranteed balance of $1,000,000, your annual servicing fee would be $3,400 (0.34% of $1,000,000). This would be collected by your lender and remitted to the SBA, often as part of your monthly payment.

Lenders are responsible for correctly calculating and collecting the ongoing servicing fee from the borrower and remitting it to the SBA. Errors can result in fees owed by the lender or issues with the guaranty.
