SBA loan basics
Short answer
Yes, there is typically an annual servicing fee (also called a "SBA annual service fee" or "on-going guaranty fee") that borrowers pay on top of their interest rate for an SBA 7(a) loan.
In addition to the upfront guaranty fee, the SBA charges an annual service fee to the lender for the guaranteed portion of the loan. This fee is typically passed on to the borrower as part of the total loan cost, calculated on the outstanding principal balance.
For a $500,000 SBA 7(a) loan, if the annual service fee is 0.55% of the guaranteed portion, and the SBA guarantees 75% ($375,000), the annual fee would be $2,062.50. This is paid annually, usually monthly, in addition to the principal and interest.
