While the entire process isn't fully online with the SBA, many lenders now offer online application portals to start the process remotely.
The SBA itself does not directly accept loan applications online. You apply through an SBA-approved lender. Many banks and non-bank lenders have developed online application platforms where you can submit initial information and documents. However, the full underwriting process often still involves direct communication and document submission, which may require some in-person or video conference meetings.
You can fill out an initial application form and upload financial documents on a lender's website. However, a loan officer will then likely contact you for an interview and to request additional, specific documents or clarifications.
Lenders value direct interaction to build rapport and fully understand the borrower and business. While online submission streamlines initial steps, they ensure thorough due diligence, which may necessitate further communication beyond a simple online portal.
