SBA loan basics
Short answer
Yes, in addition to the upfront guaranty fee, the SBA typically charges an annual servicing fee (also called an ongoing guaranty fee) on the outstanding principal balance of the loan, which is passed on to the borrower.
The SBA charges an ongoing annual servicing fee to cover the costs of administering the 7(a) loan program. This fee is calculated as a percentage (e.g., 0.55%) of the guaranteed portion of the outstanding loan balance and is collected by the lender, who then remits it to the SBA. This fee is separate from any upfront guaranty fee.
If you have an SBA 7(a) loan with an outstanding principal balance of $400,000 and the SBA guarantees 75% of it, the annual servicing fee would be calculated on $300,000 (the guaranteed portion). At a 0.55% rate, this would amount to $1,650 per year.
